On their second LP, the way-underground Chicago-based duo of Serengeti & Polyphonic display a forward thinking, if lonely, look into the human condition. Homelessness, fractured family ties, drug abuse and African American male stereotypes are covered in a sincere and thought provoking manner. Serengeti’s spoken word delivery keeps the listener leaning closer to the speaker while Polyphonic drops incredibly intricate beats with the intent of “making beauty out of so much madness.”

Musically, Terradactyl is filled with contradictions. Digital tones are juxtaposed with timpani drums and acoustic guitars. Squeeze box samples are paired with live mandolins and baroque harps. Crackling vinyl samples and airtight studio production delicately link all of the sounds together.
