Just in time for the holidays, Takashi Murakami is teaming up again with Louis Vuitton to gift wrap the luxury leather goods company’s 5th Avenue store in printed vinyl.

“The idea to wrap the Fifth Avenue maison in Monogram Multicolore came about earlier this year in an effort to do something truly unique for the holiday season,” said Daniel Lalonde, president and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton North America. (via WWD)

Murakami, who gained art star status by subverting Otaku culture into high art, collaborated with Marc Jacobs in 2003 to redesign Louis Vuitton’s Monogram Multicolore canvas.  The new design featured the signature LV monogram but in 33 different colors on either a white or a black background.

Earlier this year, Brooklyn Museum hosted Murakami’s retrospective © MURAKAMI, which featured a fully operational Louis Vuitton boutique.  The exhibit is currently being shown at the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt.

The vinyl installation at the Louis Vuitton 5th Avenue store will be ready by Sunday Nov. 9, 2008.
