46 years ago Jamaica cast off the bonds of colonialism to become an independent nation. That inspirational moment in 1962 created a period of intense creativity that spawned ska music, the foundation of all Jamaican sounds that followed. Come join in the festivities as we cheer on fastest man alive, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, in his upcoming race and bring the history of Jamaica to Chinatown! Puma and the Deadly Dragon Sound System alongside the Legendary DownBeat The Ruler w/ Father Tony Screw plus live performances by our very special guest artists Tony Tuff and Yami Bolo! Whether it be from their Dub Boxes or their vintage 45s, DDS and Downbeat’s musical weaponry spans the historical timeline from Duke Reid to Coxsone, from the Roots music of the 70s to the computerized riddims of the 80s all the way to the bubbling fresh sounds of today.
